The name “Zyra” comes from a classic sci fi movie circa 1951 called When Worlds Collide.
In the story, a huge planet, named Bellus by the worlds astronomers, and a smaller satellite planet they called Zyra, are found to be on a collision course with the Earth. In a desperate bid to escape the impending disaster, a handful of people work to build a rocketship in a flurry of round the clock preparation, back biting and heroic sacrifice.
Finally, as the gravitational pull of the enormous Bellus is tearing the Earth apart, the hopeful ship shoots down a giant ski jump and launches into orbit.
Just in the nick of time!
Fortunately, the planet Zyra is left untouched by the celestial disaster and after a short flight, seated comfortably in their wicker chairs, the pioneers land on its surface.
They emerge from the shuttle to a glorious landscape festooned with lovely space flowers and, happily, an atmosphere compatible for life and so the proliferation of the human species is assured.
It’s a wonderful new day on the planet Zyra!
Compelling, isn’t it? I just love these movies-
Mostly I liked the name.
